27 Jan 12 Solar Energy (PV) Systems

Photovoltaic cells generate direct-current (DC) electricity. About 40 cells are coupled as one in enclosed, protecting casings called modules. About ten of these modules are mounted in individual PV panel. These flat-plate PV panels can be mounted facing south, or they can be mounted on a tracking device that follows the sun, allowing them to capture the most sunlight over the flow of a daylight hours. About ten to 20 PV panels can manufacture adequate electricity for a household; for large electric utility or industrial applications, hundreds of arrays can be interrelated to form a single, substantial PV system. Two primary types of PV technologies existing commercially are crystalline silicon and thin film.

In crystalline-silicon technologies, one PV cells are cut out from ingots of crystalline silicon. In thin film PV technologies, the PV material is deposited on glass or thin metal that mechanically wires the module.

Thin-film-based modules are created in sheets that are sized for specified electrical outputs. Few companies have in progress integrating PV products into building supplies. For instance, PV shingles look like traditional asphalt shingles and can be installed by roofers. Other parallel technologies are standing-seam metal roofs incorporating PV and modules that look like slate roofing resources. Soon to be widely accessible is glass for windows and skylights that make electricity.

The benefit of these technologies is that they exchange building resources that you would purchase anyway. The cost over 20 years will sum up to between 20 and 40 cents per kilowatt hour. However, expenses will vary quite a bit depending on your location, solar resources, and available subsidies.

In addition to PV modules, the components needed to complete a PV system might include a battery charge controller, batteries, an inverter or electricity control piece (for alternating-current loads), safety disconnects and fuses, a grounding circuit, and wiring. Estimating Solar Resources at Your spot There are three factors to consider when determining whether your spot is suitable for photovoltaics.

1. Systems installed in the Northern Hemisphere must gain southern exposure. For highest each day electricity output, PV modules ought to be exposed to the sun for as much of the daylight hours as possible, especially through the height sun hours of 10 a.m. To 3 p.m.

2. The southern exposure must be released of obstructions such as trees, mountains, and buildings that might shade the modules. Consider both summer and winter paths of the sun, as well as the growth of trees and coming construction that may cause shading problems.

3. The unobstructed southern exposure ought to moreover have suitable terrain and enough place to install the PV system Unlike utility electricity plants, which deliver electricity constantly despite the time of day and year or the weather, the output of PV modules is straightforwardly interrelated to time and weather. Where you live will affect the amount of PV modules you will require for electricity, since various geographic regions experience various weather patterns.

However, PV systems still generate electricity in bad weather. On gray days, they can generate up to 80% of their capability energy delivery; on hazy, wet days, about 50%; and on really gray days, they still deliver up to 30%. Seasonal variations affect the amount of sunlight accessible to power a PV system. When scheming a PV system be certain your installer obtains data exact to your area.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration began collecting solar data just about 20 years ago. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Renewable Resource Data Center can provide solar resource information, as can the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Clearinghouse. Some state energy offices too hold solar data-collection programs to assist solar designers. Finally, books are available that contain solar data on most key cities in the United States.

26 Dec 11 Natural Energy Sources – Solar Energy & Wind Energy

This era is recognized by its scientific advancements and developments in technology. Science has provided many new features and inventions for us. We use a lot of scientific things in our daily life. Using these things make everyday life easy meanwhile absence of such things make very simple tasks nearly impossible.

There are some basic needs that one need to perform his daily duties, electricity is one of the most important among those needs. During recent years the demand of electricity is increased at an alarming rate, overcoming the supplies of electricity. So it became very important that other energy resources should be explored as a replacement of electricity. What other sources can be best?We have the answer now and that is in the form of solar and wind power.

Extensive researches lead to development of energy through natural resources.

These resources include solar and wind energy. These energies can be stored to a great extent, as they are available everywhere and anyone can make use of them. People can store these resources and use them accordingly. One very important feature of using these resources is that they do not harm environment and climate as much as other energy sources do. Our ozone layer has been damaged due to extensive use of energy resources. But is there any way to prevent it?

Looking at the price will give you an idea whether to build this energy system on your own or to hire someone to make this system available to you. You can create your own system in about 200 Dollars by purchasing the necessary materials for the project.

10 Jun 09 Build Solar Energy Panels

Have you ever thought to build solar energy panels? Most people who truly desire to become more energy independent, have been led to believe that it is simply too costly of an undertaking, or that you need to be some sort of physics major to construct a solar panel. Maybe you are completely fed up with relying on the big energy companies and the exorbitant prices that they charge.

Personally, it drives me nuts to be slaves, so to speak, to the power companies. I know for a fact that there are many alternative and renewable energy sources that are more than capable of delivering energy for a fraction of the cost, if not completely wiping out your energy bill all together. Sounds pretty good huh? So why not give it a shot and build solar energy panels?

My name is Andrew, and I have basically become quite fascinated with the thought of harnessing the energy of the sun to offset the cost of being “on the grid.” That isn’t all there is to it though.

There are many other ways to power a home that the majority of people simply aren’t aware of, and I would love nothing more than to spread the knowledge so that one day we will find ourselves capable of creating everything we need to be self reliant.

Things such as wind turbines to harness the energy of the wind, or ways to produce electricity from running water are just a couple more methods that I want to explore as I gain more knowledge and insight. Who knows, maybe one day we will have vehicles that run on nothing but water as they efficiently separate the hydrogen from the oxygen. Pure, clean, renewable energy with no pollution is possible, but it takes knowledge and understanding.

I will continue to add more information about what exactly solar energy is, the pros and cons, some interesting facts, and how different systems work. If you have begun to become interested in ways of becoming more self sufficient in case of an emergency or truly wish to get off the grid, then make sure and explore this site. If anything, I would like to provide knowledge and direction for those who are looking to better themselves.

I chose to simply stick with this one area of energy; namely for you to learn to build solar energy panels with this site. As time goes by, I hope to have sister sites that will tie in with this one, and provide step-by-step plans to construct various means of producing alternate energy and much more as well.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my site. I hope you enjoy it and can take away something positive from it. If you do decide to build solar energy panels, I hope it is something that your whole family can learn and enjoy doing together.

11 May 09 Photovoltaic Solar Energy

Most people in this day and age would of heard or read some information on solar energy, wind turbines, saving the environment, and so on. Nevertheless you may still be unfamiliar with what photovoltaic solar energy actually is and what all the fuss is about.

Well the answer is quite simple; global awareness and human evolution have finally reached a peak and now we are looking for more resourceful ways of giving back to the environment as well as sustaining productivity in the electronic age. Since we are on the verge of a long overdue technological revolution, why not employ this enormous resolution and make the most out of what we already have, which is an endless amount of renewable energy that has been around forever, this being the sun of course.

Humanity has often made choices that sometimes do not help in the survival of our species or our planet.

But then once we realize we are dealing with a real problem we have proved ourselves to be quite effective in determining a solution. A few years ago we did start to take baby steps in saving out environment
by making people more aware of recycling, carpooling and renewable energy sources. Since then we now know for certain that coal and oil will one day be depleted which has boosted the exploration into alternative sources of energy. Photovoltaic solar energy was the turning point, sending us into a journey of
positive clean productivity.

Photovoltaic’s, also referred to as PV, is the field of technology and research related to the application of solar cells for energy by converting solar energy directly into electricity. The idea of photovoltaic solar energy probably sounds a little difficult to comprehend when really it is quite understandable. Small solar cells that capture the light convert this into a direct current of electricity, which can be used to power equipment and even to recharge batteries. These cells are placed and sealed in behind a glass sheet, on a smaller scale these modules are very capable of powering an emergency telephone just as an example. Homes or businesses instead would require multiple modules joined electronically. A collection of solar cell modules represents what we know as today, as solar panels.

Accessibility to photovoltaic solar energy has accelerated. In earlier stages it was mainly used to power orbiting satellites and spacecrafts, and today it is commonly seen on your next door neighbour’s rooftops, in hospitals and businesses, even on the side of the road. Photovoltaic solar energy not only plays a great part to global cause but it has given people the opportunity to generate their own power and reduce costs of living dramatically. Before we know it anyone will have the choice to go off-grid at their own discretion.

For people of the world to really get involved in something as exciting as creating their own energy and shaping this planet for future generation’s to come is truly amazing. With everything from DIY photovoltaic solar energy systems to wind power kits already available today there is certainly something for every budget and skill level. I guess now all that is left is the question, are you ready to jump on the innovation wagon?

03 May 09 Solar Energy Costs

Looking back several years ago, owning a solar energy system is quite expensive but due to its mass production the price / cost of obtaining it decreases. The cost of the solar panel system and solar panel becomes reasonable and the plus factor of it is it produces more electricity. Of course the cost of installing the system is very expensive but after that it drops gradually. If you look at solar wind generators you will find out that it is around 0.00, while the entire solar panel system can be in your hand at less ,000.00. This in fact can sustain the electricity more than enough than what you need.

The years of high priced solar energy system is over, now it can be in the home of an average home owner. Residential solar panels can be purchased at reasonable price what is important is you know where to go and do shopping. So, before ordering and purchasing one, see to it you know what you are looking for and what you want so that you will find the right assistance.

The total solar energy cost is composed of the purchasing the solar panels, batteries, inverter, solar energy generators and others.

If you are looking forward of having a solar panel heating system you have to think of a lot of things, a professional can explain you more about it. Because the cost well depend on the appliances you have in your home and your energy needed consumption.

There are so many ways and practices that you can do in order to save energy and cut a an energy cost, some of it are choose an energy saving bulb, turn off some lights when not use, or leave your AC on when you need it and when your out program it in cycles. This is just applicable if you’re not owning a home you just rented but if you own a home or dreaming to have a home for your own having a solar energy system can help you save money.
